What is lacquer spraying and when do you choose it?
In lacquer spraying, water-based lacquer is applied to the wood with a spray gun. As with latex, we use professional spray equipment for it. An airless spray machine puts the paint under pressure without using air, as Graco describes (as of 6 October 2026). Wagner mentions as a general advantage of spraying that it is faster and can be more even (Wagner).

What can we lacquer spray for you in the home?
We focus on woodwork in homes. That means:
- Interior doors: in one or more colours, in consultation with you.
- Frames: interior frames at doors and windows, indoors.
- Staircases: closed staircases and open staircases.
- Other woodwork, such as skirting boards. Ask about it when you get the quote.

How lacquer spraying works: preparation and coats
A good lacquer coat starts with preparation. That is most of the work, and it determines the result.
- Visit: we look at the woodwork and discuss colour and gloss.
- Preparation: cleaning, sanding and small repairs.
- Masking: walls, floor and glass are covered.
- Spraying: in coats, with drying time in between.
- Handover: we walk through the work together and clean up.
Do not move a door too quickly after spraying: the lacquer has to cure first. More about that in the next section.
Drying time of water-based lacquer
Drying times depend on the lacquer and the temperature. As an example we take the data sheet of Flexa Strak in de Lak interior matt (Flexa data sheet, as of 6 October 2026). It states:

That sheet describes the product for brush and roller and does not mention spraying, so read it as an example of the order of magnitude. For our lacquer, the times from the sheet of that lacquer apply. In practice it means a door is dust-dry quickly, but you handle it carefully for the first few days.

Lacquer spraying or brush lacquering: what is the difference?
With brush lacquering, brush marks appear quickly, especially on large flat surfaces such as a door. A spray gun lays the lacquer in a thin, even coat. On the other hand, spraying needs more preparation, because everything around it has to be well covered. For a single door that is often not worth the effort. For several doors, frames or a whole staircase it is.

The finish also depends on the surface. A badly prepared door does not look good just because it is sprayed. That is why we see cleaning, sanding and repairing as a standard part of the work.
What do you prepare yourself for lacquer spraying?
You do not need to do much, but a few things help. Make sure the space around the doors and the staircase is clear. Remove loose items, such as shoes, bags and decorations. At the visit, say which items you want done and in which colour. If you have a preference for gloss, tell us that too: lacquer comes in different gloss levels, and the Flexa sheet, for example, mentions a matt version.
Is any woodwork damaged or rotten? Then repair comes first, because lacquer does not cover holes and cracks. We discuss that beforehand, so that the quote is correct.
Worked example: doors and a staircase
An example based on our "from" prices. For 5 interior doors we charge 5 times €110, which is €550. Add a closed staircase from €650 and you reach €1,200. With an open staircase from €700 that is €1,250. These are "from" amounts, not fixed prices. The exact price is in the quote after the visit, because lacquer spraying is bespoke work.
Combining lacquer and latex in one home
You can have the walls and ceilings done in latex and the woodwork in lacquer. Then you only have to coordinate with one company and we plan the work in one go.
