Having your ceiling sprayed: when is it a smart move?
A ceiling is the hardest surface to paint evenly. You work above your head, the light falls streakily across the surface and every irregularity shows. With spraying, the paint is applied in an even mist. Manufacturer Wagner calls spraying thicker and more even than rolling.
Ceiling spraying pays off above all when you have many square metres, when several ceilings are tackled in one go or when you also want to renew the walls. For one small ceiling, rolling is often enough. We discuss that honestly at the site visit, even if it means a small ceiling is better done by yourself. So you do not have to buy anything from us that you do not need.
Spray painting ceilings: how we go about it
Spraying a ceiling starts with preparation. Without that preparation even a good machine gives a messy result.
- We check the ceiling and discuss the colour. Our prices are based on light colours and one colour per quote.
- We mask windows and frames and cover the floor.
- We hand sand the ceiling and repair small defects.
- We fill all inside corners, the transition between wall and ceiling.
- We spray two coats of latex with an airless machine.
- We clear up and go through the handover with you.
We set the machine to suit the paint. The pressure and the tip determine the result; in the brochure from Graco you can read how the tip code works and that you keep about 30 cm distance.
Ceiling spraying cost: what does it cost per m2?
What does ceiling spraying cost per m2? With us the same "from" prices apply as for walls: €7.95 (Basic), €9.95 (Medium) or €11.95 (High) per m2. You choose the package, we measure the surface and you get a quote with the VAT amount (btw).

Cost of spraying a ceiling with latex paint: a worked example
Say your living room has a ceiling of 20 m2 and you choose the Medium package. Then you calculate 20 times 9.95, which is €199.00. If you also have a hallway of 5 m2 and a bedroom of 12 m2, add 17 m2: 37 m2 times 9.95 is €368.15.
That way you can quickly make an indication yourself. The final quote may differ because of the condition of the ceiling, the number of colours and any extra repairs. That is why we always look at it on site first. Only then do we set the final price and agree a date that suits you, so you are not faced with surprises.
Spraying ceilings together with the walls
It is practical to do walls and ceiling in one job. We only have to mask once and your home is only taken over once. The colours and finish also match nicely, especially at the transition between wall and ceiling.

Drying time and coats when airless spraying a ceiling
A ceiling gets two coats. The data sheet from Sigma gives, for Air Pure Supermatt, dry after about 1 hour and overpaintable after 4 hours (23 degrees, 50% humidity). For wall paint, Flexa gives overpaintable after 4 hours at 20 degrees and warns that the paint may not be applied below 10 degrees (Flexa).
So do not plan a spraying day in an unheated room in winter. We agree the schedule with you, so that the room can be used again as soon as the paint allows.
What you do yourself before we spray your ceiling
- Take down lamps, smoke detectors where possible and ceiling accessories, or tell us what stays up.
- Move small furniture and loose items out of the room.
- Make sure the room is accessible and well ventilated.
- Tell us the colour you want for the ceiling.
We take care of the rest. Masking of windows and frames, sanding, filling and clearing up are all in the price. That keeps your own work limited and you know in advance what to expect. For painting a home older than 2 years, the 9% rate applies, according to the Dutch Tax Administration. You will see the VAT amount in the quote.
Are masking and filling included in the price?
Yes, masking of windows and frames, small repairs, hand sanding and filling of the inside corners are included in the m2 price, as are clearing up and handover.
Can I have a ceiling sprayed in a lived-in home?
Yes. We mask, cover the floor and clear up afterwards. Items that are in the way you remove yourself, or we move them together to one spot.
